LSG rope in Windies pacer Shamar for Wood

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday announced the signing of West Indian speedster Shamar Joseph as replacement for Mark Wood for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League 2024.

The pacer was recently at the forefront of WI’s historic Test win against Australia at the Gabba, picking up seven wickets in the second innings with an injured toe to help his team script an incredible victory.

It was the Guyanese quick’s second international outing having made his debut for the West Indies in the first Test at Adelaide.

Despite his team losing the match, the fiery 24-year-old impressed in his very first innings, picking up 5/94. He dismissed Steve Smith with his very first delivery in Test cricket before sending back Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Travis Head and Mitchell Starc to the dugout.

In the second match in Brisbane, Joseph picked up one wicket in the first innings before producing a match-winning 7/68 in the second to help West Indies draw the two-match series.

What made this feat even more astonishing was the fact that Joseph broke his toe while batting the previous day and had to retire hurt. The youngster unsurprisingly walked away with both the Player of the Match and Series awards.

Coming from a humble background, Joseph most recently worked as a construction worker and security guard, till just a couple of years ago. This will be Joseph’s first stint in the IPL
