Nervous Pant gears up for comeback after 14 months

New Delhi, Mar 14:

Rishabh Pant, the star wicketkeeper-batsman, expressed a mix of excitement and nervousness as he prepares to make his comeback to professional cricket including the IPL 2024 season after 14 months.

The 26-year-old had been declared fit by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after undergoing extensive rehabilitation following a life-threatening road accident.

In an emotional statement, Pant acknowledged the challenges he had faced and described his return to cricket as nothing short of a miracle.

“I’m excited and nervous at the same time. It feels like I’m going to make my debut again. To be able to play cricket again after everything I’ve been through is nothing short of a miracle,” an emotional Pant said.

He expressed gratitude towards his well-wishers, fans, the BCCI, and the staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for their support during his recovery process.

“I’m grateful to all my well-wishers and fans, and most importantly, the BCCI and staff at NCA. All their love and support continues to give me immense strength,” he said.

Pant eagerly anticipated rejoining the Delhi Capitals for the IPL, a tournament he enjoys immensely. He expressed his excitement to reunite with his team and play in front of the fans again.

The Chairman and Co-owner of Delhi Capitals, Parth Jindal, commended Pant’s resilience and determination in overcoming challenges, calling his return inspirational. He expressed his anticipation for Pant’s comeback and his eagerness to see him compete again.

Kiran Grandhi, another co-owner of the Delhi Capitals, echoed similar sentiments, stating that Pant’s return is not only significant for the team but also for Indian cricket as a whole. He expressed excitement about Pant representing Delhi Capitals again and extended his best wishes to him.

Delhi Capitals are scheduled to commence their IPL 2024 campaign against Punjab Kings on Saturday, 23 March 2024, at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mohali.
