Pak seeks quick entry into BRICS

Islamabad, Feb 21:

Pakistan hopes for accelerated consideration of its application to join BRICS, the chairman of the defence committee of the Senate of Pakistan, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, told Sputnik, adding that Pakistan’s presence in BRICS will strengthen the bloc.

In November 2023, Pakistan submitted an official request to join BRICS. Islamabad also noted that it hopes for Moscow’s assistance on the issue.

“We are hopeful that the Russian side will take our application seriously. Currently, we are standing in line with the countries that have also applied. But given that we have good relationships with Russia and China and that we are also members of SCO, perhaps the application could be fast-tracked. Pakistan’s presence in BRICS would add strength to BRICS,” Sayed said.

He also added that BRICS is not only a strategic alliance but also the “embodiment of the Global South”.
