President Murmu nominates Sudha Murty to RS

New Delhi, Mar 9:

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday nominated educator, author and philanthropist Sudha Murty to the Rajya Sabha.

This was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a post on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

Modi said, “Her presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to our ‘Nari Shakti”.

“I am delighted that the President of India has nominated @SmtSudhaMurty Ji to the Rajya Sabha. Sudha Ji’s contributions to diverse fields, including social work, philanthropy and education, have been immense and inspiring. Her presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to our ‘Nari Shakti’, exemplifying the strength and potential of women in shaping our nation’s destiny. Wishing her a fruitful Parliamentary tenure,” the PM said.

Born on August 19, 1950, in Karnataka’s Shiggaon, she began her career as a computer scientist and engineer.

Sudha Murty, wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, is a prolific writer in Kannada and English, authoring novels, technical books and travelogues.

She is the mother of Akshata Murty, who is married to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
