Rahul should contest against BJP, not Left: Kerala CM

Thrissur, Dec 6:

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said that it is for the Congress to decide whether Rahul Gandhi should fight against BJP or Left in the next general election in the state.

Since the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) is also part of the I.N.D.I.A. alliance formed to take on BJP, Rahul Gandhi”s contest from Wayanad, amounts to a fight among two partners. Ideally, Rahul should fight against BJP and not CPI (M), he said .

Interacting with media on the second day of the Nava Kerala Sadassu in the district, Vijayan said I.N.D.I.A. alliance is formed to take on BJP in the next general election and made it amply clear that the CPM would be fielding its candidate in Wayanad.

On Monday, CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan had said Rahul Gandhi should focus on combating fascist policies of the BJP rather involving himself in intra-state political rivalries.

Mr Vijayan also said BJP will not be able to make any dent in the elections from Thrissur. In 2019, Rahul Gandhi had won in Wayanad by a margin of more than 4 lakh votes defeating the Left party candidate.
