Special buses to operated from tomorrow to clear Pongal rush

As the Tamil festival of Pongal is fast approaching, the state government to operate special buses from tomorrow to clear rush.

As per the Tamil Nadu government Pongal special bus services schedule, a total of 19,484 buses will be operated between January 12 (Friday) and 14 (Sunday). Of this, nearly 11,130 will depart from Chennai.

As announced earlier, all south (Madurai and beyond) and west-bound (Coimbatore and Erode) buses, operated by State Express Transport Corporation, will depart from the newly opened bus terminus in Kilambakkam instead of Koyambedu. All these buses are either semi-sleeper or sleeper buses.

However, mofussil buses (normal seater), operated by TNSTC to Thiruvannamalai, Tindivanam, Villupuram and other districts will depart from CMBT in Koyambedu. East Coast Road (ECR) and Bengaluru-bound buses will also be operated from CMBT.

Buses to Thanjavur and Kumbakonam via Vikravandi and Panruti will depart from a temporary bus stand in Tambaram.

Poonamallee bus stand will be the origin for buses bound for Hosur, Arcot, Vellore, Kancheepuram and Cuddalore. Chidambaram-bound buses (via Puducherry) will depart from KK Nagar bus stop.

Buses to Andhra Pradesh will leave from Madhavaram.

As many as 11 ticket reservation counters will be opened at Kilambakkam, Tambaram MEPZ and Koyambedu.
