TN’s Arthi enters final of Khelo India squash

Chennai, Jan 23:

Tavneet Singh Mundra (MP) will take on Aryan Pratap Singh (UP) for the boys’ title and Tamil Nadu’s R. Pooja Arthi will lock horns with Nirupama Dubey (Mah) for the girls’ crown in the Khelo India Youth Games squash competition on Tuesday.

“I’m thrilled to be in the final and aim to become the inaugural squash champion of the Khelo India Youth Games,” top seed and National Games runner-up Pooja Arthi said after defeating state-mate Deepika V 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 in the semifinals at the Indian Squash & Triathlon Academy on Monday.

Meanwhile, Nirupama was extended by Tamil Nadu’s Shameena Riaz before the second seed from Maharashtra pulled through in a gritty display.

The boys’ final also pits the top two seeds after top ranked Tavneet edged out Tamil Nadu’s Sandhesh PR 3-2 in a thriller and Aryan Pratap beat local challenger Arihant KS 3-1.

In the team event which commenced on Monday, hosts and favourites Tamil Nadu made a winning start in both the boys’ and girls’ sections.
