Wrestling harassment case verdict on May 10

New Delhi, May 8:

A Delhi Court on Tuesday fixed May 10 for pronouncing its order on sexual harassment charges against former Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh lodged by six female wrestlers.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Priyanka Rajpoot after hearing both sides put up the matter for pronouncing its order on Friday at 2 PM.

The ACMM court had dismissed the application of Sharan Singh seeking further probe in the matter on April, 26 and listed the matter on May, 7 for deciding the issue of charge.

Counsel for Singh after moving the application earlier submitted that he was not in the country on the date when the offence of harassment is alleged.

The counsel contended that the Delhi Police have not been placed on record call detail records (CDR). The police had relied upon the CDR of the coach who had accompanied the complainant and stated that they had gone to WFI on September 7, 2022, where she was allegedly molested.

He contended, ” If I am not there when the offence is being alleged against me, my plea of alibi will come in. So I am seeking direction to Delhi Police to investigate the issue”.

Government Counsel had opposed the application by submitting that the present application is filed only as a delaying tactics by the defence.

In this matter after investigation police had filed a charge sheet against Singh under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
