BJP will pay dearly for Mahua’s expulsion: Mamata

Kurseong, Dec 9:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday reacting to the expulsion of party MP Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha, slammed the BJP-led central government, saying it was pursuing the vendetta politics on the TMC after losing the electoral politics in West Bengal.

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha aftera debate on the cash-for-question allegation.

Banerjee, who is the TMC chairperson, described the move as “unacceptable” and a “betrayal” of the country’s parliamentary democracy, and predicted the people will give a befitting reply to the BJP in the election.

“Her expulsion has brightened the scope for her return to the Lok Sabha in the next poll (2024),” Banerjee told reporters here after being asked if Moitra would be made a party candidate in the next election.

“Right now we see there is no such question as why she would not contest the election,” the TMC supremo said.

“I am shocked and sad. Four hundred and ninety-five pages of the report (Ethics Committee report) were placed. After just 30 minutes of discussion, she was expelled. How can one read 495 pages in 30 minutes? She (Mahua Moitra)was not even allowed to speak on her side. She was not even allowed to speak in self-defence. They did not allow her to explain her side. This is a murder of democracy. This is injustice,” Banerjee was quoted as saying.

She thanked the I.N.D.I.A. alliance partners for standing in support of Moitra in the Parliament. “Mahua is a victim of circumstances,” Banerjee reiterated.

The expulsion will boost her chances for her return to Parliament as the party was with her and she will definitely win this fight.

“We will fight it boldly and politically. The party supports her. She is from the younger generation and a female MP,” the TMC supremo said.
