Director Vignesh Karthick’s Hot Spot narrates four standalone stories, three are intent on showcasing
men as monsters and women as victims. The fourth one, surprisingly, is an exception and stands out as
the best among the lot.
The first of the four stories is titled Happy Married Life. This story revolves around Dhanyaa (Gouri G
Kishen) and Vijay(Adithya Baskar). Both of them are in a relationship and Vijay is insistent on getting
married while Dhanyaa is a little nervous about their wedding.
Happy Married Life, features 96 pair Gouri G Kishan and Adithya Bhaskar, and the second story, Golden
Rules, features Sandy and Ammu Abhirami. Both of these storylines are centred around couples who
want to get married to each other. Even though these two stories are similar in tone, how they play out is
completely different from each other. What’s similar in both of these narratives is that the music is
admirably integrated into the storyline.
Also, one of the stories features a dream sequence that goes on for a bit too long, but every moment of it
is worth it, making you wonder whether the film is set in a parallel reality. But, even though that’s not the
case, those sequences are sure to generate laughs along with making you think.
The third story, Thakkali Chutney, features Janani Iyer as Anitha and Subash as Vetri. Even though he is
named Vetri, there’s nothing in his life that’s going for him. This storyline goes in depth into love and lust
and the gender dynamics that play out between men and women. The tone of Thakkali Chutney also
fuses well with the overall narrative of the film.
The fourth story called Fame Game, features Kalaiyarasan as Ezhumalai and Sofia as Lakshmi. Both
Kalaiyarasan and Sofia, through their fantastic performances, ensure that the strong message of the
story is driven home.
