India’s first in-plant train transport at Maruti Suzuki

Gujarat, Mar 13:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated India’s first-ever automobile in-plant railway siding at
Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility through a virtual conference. This initiative, aligned with the PM’s flagship
Gati Shakti programme, aims to elevate logistics, curb carbon emissions, and ease out road congestion.
By leveraging railway transport, the facility seeks to diminish fossil fuel consumption and mitigate traffic
congestion on roads.
Upon reaching full operational capacity, the railway siding in Gujarat will facilitate the dispatch of 3 lakh
cars annually to 15 destinations across India.
Other key benefits of this new initiative includes the cut down of annual carbon emission by up to 1,650
MT. More so, as the railway siding will be fully electric. Besides that, it will also ensure that the railway
transportation will ensure that the truck trips made to transport cars will be cut down by up to 50,000 trips
per year, thus saving 35 million of fossil fuels per annum.
