TN Assembly pays homage to Vijaykanth, late member, onserves 2 miniutes silence

As the 2nd day of the budget session of the Legislative Assembly began, condolence notes were read for the late members Vadivelu, Deivanayagam, Thangavel, Durai Ramasamy, K.K.Selvam, S.Rajasekaran and others.

A 2 minute silence was observed after Speaker Appavu finished reading the condolence resolution.

Following that, Speaker Appavu read out the condolence resolution on the death of late former Reserve Bank of India Governor Venkatraman, renowned ophthalmologist Bhadrinath, former Tamil Nadu Governor Fatima Beevi, former Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu Government and former Odisha State Governor Rajendran.

Also, a condolence resolution was passed on the demise of DMDK leader and former Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Vijayakanth. Members then observed a 2-minute silence to mark their demise.

In the condolence note read by Speaker Appavu Vijayakanth, “This House is saddened by the passing away of Vijayakanth, the leader of the Democratic Party, popular actor and former leader of opposition in the Assembly.

Also, he acted in more than a hundred films, became the president of the South Indian Film Actors Association, and involved himself in public life and was fondly called as Captain. He is honored to be selected for the Padma Bhushan award this year.

From 2006-2011, he was elected from Vrudhachalam Constituency and from 2011-16 from Rishivanthiyam Constituency. He also worked effectively as the Leader of the Opposition. The council expresses its deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.
