Moscow, Mar 7:

Russia’s 2024 presidential election is scheduled for March 15–17. The nation will have its ninth presidential election this year. It is the first presidential election in Russia when polls will be open for three days instead of one.

It will also be the first presidential election in which voters can cast ballots online, with e-voting rolled out across 29 regions.

Vladimir Putin, the current president, is a favourite to win a fifth term in office. Leonid Slutsky of the Liberal Democratic Party, Nikolay Kharitonov of the Communist Party, and Vladislav Davankov of New People12 are the three opposition party candidates he is up against.

Putin has a 65% popularity rating and a 66% chance of winning the nomination over another contender, according to a recent Levada Center poll3. The same survey also revealed that 58% of Russians back the conflict that began in 2022 and is still going on with Ukraine. One day following the conclusion of the voting session, on March 18, 2024, is anticipated to be the date of the Russian presidential election results in 2024.

The 2020 constitutional revisions allow Vladimir Putin, the current president, to run for election a fifth time. Since he has a high popularity rating and no real opponents, it is widely anticipated that he will win.

The Russian presidential election of 2024 will be important for a number of reasons, chief among them is the fact that it will determine whether Vladimir Putin will serve a fifth term in office, making him the longest-serving head of state in Russia since Stalin.

It will also have an impact on the course of the future of Russia’s domestic and foreign policy, as well as its relations with other nations and regions, including the US, Europe, China, and the Middle East.
